[Iogymi]
<~ <~ <~ <~ <~ <~ <~> ~> ~> ~> ~> ~> ~>
Walking into Iogymi's cave is like walking into an old mine tunnel. The space is cramped, forcing you to hunch your shoulders and crouch slightly. The light from the entrance fades swiftly to almost nothing, and a ghostly silence assaults your ears. Despite your best efforts to stay calm, the hair of the back of your neck prickles up, and you can't help but glance around nervously as you feel your way along in the dim light.
The silence is broken abruptly by a shrill screech of anger behind you, and you whirl around with a sudden pump of adrenaline shooting through your system. You catch a glimse of something small barreling toward you from the entrance, but before you have a chance to react the mysterious creature has shoved itself past you and raced onward into the darkness. Distant scrabbles and a fading hiss ring in your ears. Shaking your head to get the last echoes out, you hesitate, then continue.
As you fumble your way around the next bend, flickering light creeps into the tunnel from somewhere up ahead. The warm glow is a comforting change from solid dark. Heartened, you quicken your pace. With each step, the light grows stronger and the tunnel larger, until you can stand up almost straight again, and with one final turn the passageway opens into a cozy cavern. The warm, flickering light comes from a series of lit torches along the walls. Though they are blazing merrily, there is very little residual smoke within the cavern. It is a curious thing, but before you can ponder it further your thoughts are interrupted by an angry, aggressive hiss.
"You! Ssneaking into my cave. Going to ssteal my treassure, you were! Trickssy vissitor. Ssaw you, I did! Sstop you, I will. No one sstealss from Zyith! Princesss'ss treassure iss ssafe here. I guardss it, I do. Touch it you will not! Ssearched hard for thiss, I did. Find treassure yoursself elssewhere, you can!"
Zyith's info can be found at the bottom of the page.
'Princess', you realize, must be the small creature's name for Iogymi. Despite the convoluted sentence structures and the persistant hiss in his speech, Zyith's meaning is quite clear. His pale eyes lock with yours in a baleful glare, assuring you warningly that the purple guardian will not hesitate to attack if you give him reason. For all his size, you remember vividly the speed he displayed when he passed you in the tunnel, and you suspect that he could inflict a great deal of damage if provoked. Giving him a small smile, you glance around carefully, looking for the treasure he is so determined to protect.
The first item you spot is a gleaming blue gem, the bright color shining at you out of a slight shadow. You then notice a similarly-cut white gem next to it, equally brilliant but a bit harder to see due to its translucent nature. A much smaller ruby rests on the other side of the blue stone, and to the right of the cloudy white crystal sits a broken rock that at first glance doesn't seem to belong with the polished gemstones. It isn't until you take a second look that you notice the tiny purple crystals catching the light in the center, and realize that the apparent misfit is an amethyst geode. All three of the jewels and each tiny crystal in the geode gleam brightly, obviously polished well and often.
Farther on, you spot a Flion plushy, stripes on its body and stars on its wings. Obviously, Iogymi took a liking to this particular plushy. Though clearly of less value than the jewels, the plushy seems to have been carefully placed at the center of the far wall, farthest from the entrance, and arranged in what would have been a natural and comfortable position were the little thing alive. Despite the natural darkness and dirt of the cave, the plushy's colors are bright and clean and its eyes seem as polished as the gemstones.
Displayed next to the plushy are a framed certificate and a gleaming gold trophy, clearly prizes from some sort of event. A closer look at the certificate reveals that Iogymi came in first place in the twelfth racing contest, whatever that entails. Thinking back to your encounter with the boisterous flion, you admit to yourself that she certainly has the energy for races, and it's not hard to imagine that she might have a competitive streak. Strangely, though, she struck you as more of the wrestling, close-combat type. Perhaps such activities are not sponsored by the group that runs racing competitions?
To the other side of the trophy, you notice a line of unusual coins. One of the large coins is a striking reddish orange, matching the flames of the torches. Stripes adorn part of the face, almost seeming to dance in the flickering light. The other large coin is a more common pale gold, engraved with what appears to be a large bird latching onto the back of some sort of unicorn. You think it might be a battle, but of course you have no way to know. Flanking the larger coins are two small ones, bright gold, that are decorated respectively with a circle and a triangle. Like the gemstones and the plushy, all four coins are shiny and clean.
Looking down, you discover that Zyith's dangerous glare hasn't even budged. Noticing again the angry fervor in his eyes, you realize that he probably spends hours on end in this little cavern every day, carefully arranging and dusting and polishing each piece of treasure. No doubt each visitor who comes looking for Iogymi's stash receives the same furious response. Feeling slightly guilty for disrupting him so, you give the small cavern a final glance, then head back to the tunnel.
